I joined the Sam Barlow High School Admin team for the 2014-15 school year. I was initially hired in the district to teach science at Gresham HS in 1998 and then moved to their Administrative team in 2010. I am excited to continue my role working with the Gresham-Barlow community. My primary responsibilities are student management (last names that begin with "H" through "O") and overseeing the Science, Special Ed, and Health / PE departments. In addition, I help lead the AVID program.
I grew up in Oregon and attended David Douglas High School. After high school, I spent 4 years at the University of Oregon and received a BS in Chemistry and Biology in 1996. My graduate work was at Oregon State University where I received my MA in Teaching in 1998 and my PhD in Science Education in 2011. In addition to teaching at Gresham HS, I also spent two years teaching science education courses at Oregon State University.
In my free time, I like to hike, camp, run, and play disc golf. My wife and I live in the Gresham area and my two daughters attend elementary school in the Gresham-Barlow School District. I have spent most of my life in east Multnomah county and am excited to continue to live and serve in this community.
